PayPal Integration for Odoo : User Documentation

The following documentation will provide you with the information you need to use the PayPal <> Odoo integration. The objective is to get you familiarised with the integration by providing relevant information as to the main business processes it covers, and how you can configure it to best suits your needs.

Some of Odoo's standard features may be included in this documentation. For Odoo’s standard functionalities and instructions, we recommend you check out Odoo’s official tutorials. The same applies to PayPal itself, where we recommend you to check out the official website of PayPal and it's help center.


Install the modules

1. Get the PayPal modules on your Odoo database. The following modules need to be added : 

  • payment_paypal_integration
  • payment_paypal_vaulting
  • paypal_merchant_configurator
  • paypal_webhook_base
  • website_sale_paypal

2. Activate the modules

  • Navigate to the Apps application. 
  • Click "Update Apps List" 
  • search for paypal. 
  • Select all related modules and click activate.

Connect your PayPal account

3. Once the installation is complete, go back to the main dashboard and search for Payment Providers.Payment Providers can be found under Sales > Configuration > Online Payment > Payment Providers or Accounting> Configuration > Online Payment > Payment Providers. 

4. Click on Get Started to start your PayPal account setup. 

    1. Select the type of account you want to connect: 
      1. Sandbox : If you are using an Odoo staging environment, you would like to try the integration on a sandbox PayPal account.
      2. Production :  if you are using a live Odoo environment and you would like to connect a live PayPal account.
    2. Select the country of your PayPal account. 
    3. Click Connect.

Configure the PayPal Experience.

Once your account is connected, you can configure the PayPal buyer experience you want to display on your online shop. 

5. Under the Configuration tab, you can choose what payment method you want to activate : 

  • Credit/Debit Card Fields : enable your buyers to pay by card using PayPal debit/credit card form. 
  • Pay Later : enable your buyers to use the Pay Later functionality *subject to country availability. 
  • Venmo : enable your buyers to use Venmo *only in the US.
  • Alternative Payment Method : country specific payment methods. 
  • Vaulting : enable buyers to save their favourite payment methods.
  • Express Checkout : display PayPal buttons on Product and Cart page.

6. Under the Display Options tab, you can choose to add PayPal branded messaging to your website to drive conversion. 

Use the Preview action to visualise the messaging design. 


7. Under the Messages tab, you can choose to display messages for the different steps of the payment process.
